Beauty can be a pain, and hair removal is no exception. Despite some of the horror stories I heard about epilators, I was pretty excited when I saw the Braun Silk-epil Xelle 5180 ($ 70). With summer now in full swing, I do not want to be shaving my legs every few days.
The Braun Silk-epil Xelle 5180 with 40 small tweezers that remove hair shaft and claims to leave your skin smooth for "up to 19 days." Forty tweezers while ripping out hair looks nice. Does the device any more - it's a bit hard, almost like a lawnmower. But it still does not scare me.
It comes with two head Attachments: Dual Massage EfficiencyPro cap and cap. The dual massage is for "beginners" when it stimulates the skin and soothes it after hair is pulled to reduce the pain. The EfficiencyPro gives you the most contact with the skin for more effective hair removal. Since it was my first time using an epilator, I started with the Dual Massage cap.
Fortunately, I only hair on the lower part of my legs is probably the least sensitive. The manual states that the growth must be at least 2-5mm (0.08 - 2 in) for Best Hair, my hair was. The device has two speeds and I went straight to full power. After running the Dual Massage epilator with cap, I noticed that it was unable to pick up some of the hair. I switched to the EfficiencyPro cap and it cleared it right - I now have smooth legs! The process took me no longer than ten minutes for both legs. The light on the switch is useful in finding that finer, hair harder to see.
I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I'm not going to lie - it was pretty painful the first few minutes, but became relatively close. I had laser hair removal done and it is about the same feeling. I tried to use the Ice glove that came with before and after epilating and some of the pain relief. I noticed a few red on my legs then, but after a few hours away.
It comes with a bag makes it easy to pack when you travel. This thing can get a little messy though. The drop hair everywhere so I had them clean with a vacuum. The cleaning of the device itself is fairly simple as all the attachments, and comes with a brush the hair from the epilating head removed.
This method of hair removal may not be for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin - but it's a good option if you're tired of shaving more than once a week. It can also be a good alternative to waxing, because it is less messy, longer and more affordable. So far, about two weeks and there is some regrowth, but there is no in-grown hairs. Even if it's a bit painful (first) I'm definitely keeping the Braun Silk-epil Xelle 5180 as a part of my regular beauty regimen.
